About Fern Cottage
We think Fern Cottage would originally have been a nailmaker’s cottage, but nowadays it is more famous for being a childhood home of J.R.R Tolkien. (We’ve added some more information about Tolkien here.)

Built around 1750, Fern Cottage is located in a quiet wooded corner at the foot of the Lickey Hills, on the southern edge of Birmingham. With this great location you really can have the best of both worlds: enjoying rural seclusion but also good transport links to Birmingham city centre. From here you can also easily explore other towns and cities in the region such as historic Warwick, Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon or Oxford - “the city of dreaming spires”.

Now carefully restored, Fern Cottage still has a magical charm that draws people from around the world to visit. But don’t take our word for it - see for yourself…
